Center for Liberal Arts and Sciences

The Center for Liberal Arts and Sciences supports smooth transition from high-school education to college education, and helps students acquire basics necessary to make sophisticated expert education effective. It also assists each student in his or her acquiring various qualifications or a teacher’s license by obtaining a wide range of knowledge, developing a good and affluent personality, and basics necessary to study in an area of expertise. The Learning Support Office takes questions from students related to basic high-school education and learning.

Research Center for Technology in Infrastructure, Disaster Reduction and Social System

In the beginning, the Research Center for Technology in Infrastructure, Disaster Reduction and Social System was established on the idea that it was necessary to gather knowledge of the world for early restoration and rehabilitation from the disasters of the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. In this earthquake, Hachinohe and Hachinohe area also suffered great damage.

In recent years, along with disaster prevention, a population declining society and an infrastructure aging society have become major problems in the region. Therefore, this center studies development of cities in population decline and infrastructure deterioration, in addition to disaster reduction and construction of social systems in a local and multi-faceted approach, including measures against earthquake/tsunami, port/harbor plans, fire prevention, restoration and rehabilitation economic activities, nuclear safety engineering, radiation protection, electric power security, information and telecommunications security, satellite monitoring of the ground, psychological care for disaster victims, welfare/living environment plans, transportation network design, and general port town creation plans.

Institute for promotion of regional industrial activities (IPRIA)

To activate regional lives more ruinously, the institute of IPRIA is playing a role as a coordinator connecting university’s research activities with regional industrial activities.The instate is offering university researchers a communicating theater through trans-faculty information exchanges. The activity of the institute is well coordinated with that of the concerned activities in the administrative divisions and will act as a window to the outer institutions.

Library

The Hachinohe Institute of Technology (HIT) Library houses a collection of more than 100 thousand volumes, and it currently subscribes to about 100 domestic and foreign journals and magazines. The library stocks not only the major Japanese and foreign titles, but also a comprehensive collection of local newspapers. Various research materials are also available.
